Cobb Dr., Suite D, Smyrna, GA 30082) for the total amount of $24,000.00, to be paid by confiscated assets funds and authorize the Major to sign and execute all related items. Citywide ISSUE AND BACKGROUND: We are requesting to use $24,000 in seized funds to begin the departments Brazilian Ju Jitsu program. We are contracting with a local gym, Kuzushi Club at 4425 S. Cobb Dr. Suite D Smyrna, GA. 30082. The program will allow our officers to learn physical skills that will assist them when encountering physical confrontations from suspects. It will give our officers the confidence to handle themselves with physical confrontation, so they aren’t reliant on their tasers and OC spray. The agreement will be for six months while we asses the use of the program. The breakdown is $10 per officer, per training day. The price will also include additional training seminars that focus directly on handcuffing techniques, grappling in their uniforms with duty belts and body armor on. We researched five different gyms and Kuzushi is the only one within the city that is POST certified to conduct defensive tactics for law enforcement officers. RECOMMENDATION / REQUESTED ACTION: Smyrna Police Department requests authorization to approve a training program for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (4425 S. Cobb Dr., Suite D, Smyrna, GA 30082) for the total amount of $24,000.00, to be paid by confiscated assets funds and authorize the Major to sign and execute all related items.
