11:30 AM City of Smyrna Smyrna Public Art Committee Meeting 2800 King Street SE HR Training Room Page 5 of 7 • $26,750 remaining for other projects (potentially the sculpture that the committee is interested in doing at Taylor Brawner Park) Anna Talarico showed the committee a visual on how she and Carson have categorized the types of projects mentioned by the committee. She explained that Tier 1 is for projects that are approved and are definitely happening, which includes the library mural, the Belmont wall (ARTery), and the 3 sidewalk projects (ARTery). The Tier 2 projects are highly possible projects, pending Public Art Committee Approval. The projects on her list included: • Mural with a local business • Additional painted fire hydrants • Additional vinyl wrapped utility boxes • City Hall Crosswalk Murals using StreetBond Tier 3 projects are for projects that assumptions are still being identified, and we are still missing info from different sources: • Possible Mural Grant Program • Tayloe-Brawner Park Sculpture • Future Brush & Box Fest • Any future pop-up projects • Anything in the Public Art Plan (Argyle Bridge Mural) Tier 4 projects are projects that have not been discussed with the committee yet, but staff and/or council has brought it to staff’s attention. These projects include: • City Flag redesign • Electric Pole Painting • Vinyl on Splashpad bucket Anna Talarico asked Carson Haynie whether the Committee needed to make a final decision that day regarding which projects would be included in the Public Artwork Plan. Carson Haynie explained that she did not expect the Committee to make a final decision at that meeting, but that the Committee would need to narrow down its priorities over the next couple of meetings so the plan could be finalized and presented to Council for approval soon. Committee members discussed the projects presented by Anna Talarico. Chairperson Oglesby asked to guide the conversation and stated that the ARTery is made up of many smaller projects and that the Committee has completed several smaller projects. He said he believed it was now time to pursue a larger project that would make a significant impact. He suggested pursuing the Argyle Bridge project and sculptures. The Committee agreed that the Argyle Bridge should be a primary focus. Committee Member Meg Quigley said she liked that the Argyle Bridge is located farther out than many of the other projects that have been completed and felt it would be a great opportunity due to the amount of traffic on Spring Road. Meg Quigley also stated that StillFire had contacted her about partnering on a mural. The Committee agreed to allow StillFire to pursue the project independently, without a City partnership. Chairperson Oglesby redirected the conversation back to the Work Plan, and the Committee agreed that they wanted to focus on the Argyle Bridge Mural. Carson Haynie stated that she and Anna Talarico would gather additional details about the project and bring that information back to the Committee.
