2. Call to Order
Mayor Derek Norton called to order the February 26, 2026 Committee of the Whole meeting held
at A. Max Bacon City Hall in the HR Training Room at 6:04 PM.
2. Staff M&C Agenda Items to Review
Camille Caldwell who served 37 years in the U.S. Air Force spoke about the American Legion
Post 160 “Be the One: Legion Run”:
• This will be the first 5K race to help raise funds for housing, food, etc. for veterans.
• The event is scheduled for May 23, 2026 starting at 7 AM.
• The race route would be Atlanta Road and Concord Road.
• They have been actively engaging with businesses and residents to ensure support for
the event.
Mayor Norton emphasized the importance of coordinating with baseball schedules to avoid
conflicts. Mayor Norton also stated he would like to re-establish and coordinate connection with
the veteran nonprofit partner (to support hotel stays/housing assistance for veterans) and follow
up with local contacts to restore referral/support processes.
