Ms. Talarico informed the committee that they will also be hosting a focus group session for the Public Art Master Plan at the next Public Art Committee Meeting. Ms. Talarico said she has received great feedback from the public art survey and from her one-on-one conversations with Smyrna stakeholders. Ms. Talarico said she is very excited to share more about what she learns from the one-on-one conversations with the committee. She went on to highlight the survey once more and mentioned the coasters that she and Andrew Eble created to help spread awareness. Evie Ramsey gestured to the coasters at each committee members’ place setting, and the committee agreed the coasters looked nice and were a great idea. Evie Ramsey said she will be passing out the coasters to local businesses throughout Smyrna that afternoon. C. 2025-325 Brief Update on Jonquil Sculpture from Robert Harrison Committee member Robert Harrison said the artist is waiting to hear from the City regarding next steps. Evie Ramsey said she emailed the artist earlier that morning informing the artist that the City is moving forward with the project. Ms. Ramsey said she is awaiting a response from the artist. D. 2025-327 Utility Box Project Update Anna Talarico said that Krista Jones originally accepted the commission but declined after reviewing the contract. She reminded the committee that Billie Liao was the first alternate who was selected for the project, so her designs will now be utilized for the project. Billie Liao’s design will be placed at a new location, Spring and Park Road, as the original location, Spring Road and Cumberland Boulevard, was confirmed to no longer be feasible by the City Engineer. The committee reviewed the new location and agreed that it is a great spot for public art with lots of foot traffic. The committee reviewed Billie’s design again and expressed excitement to see it in Smyrna. Ms. Talarico mentioned that Billie’s design works very well with Keep Smyrna Beautiful efforts considering the floral presence and natural aspects of the art. She shared Kristen Ramsey’s design next. Chairperson Oglesby said he loves this artwork. Richard Garland, Community Services Administrator, said it is most likely because the message is impactful. Ms. Talarico shared Haley Vaughn’s design with the committee, and each member agreed it was a great choice. She then shared Brandon Moultrie’s design with the committee. Chairperson Oglesby said Brandon’s design is one of his favorites. Ms. Talarico informed the committee that Smyrna should have four newly finished vinyl-wrapped utility boxes by the next meeting. E. 2025-329 Fire Hydrant Project Update Anna Talarico shared an image of Briana White’s completed fire hydrant located outside of City Hall with the committee. Committee member Imani Thomas said she loved Briana’s butterfly design. Ms. Talarico informed the committee that Leah Abucayan will be working on her ‘Jonquils in a Pot’ fire hydrant in front of the Community Center next week. F. 2025-331 Review Veteran’s Memorial Fire Hydrant Designs Anna Talarico shared Eric Nine’s two designs for the Veteran’s Memorial fire hydrant with the group. The committee loved Eric’s first design, a bouquet of poppies wrapped in an American flag. Richard Garland suggested shying away from the second design as it is camouflage and may be difficult for fire fighters to locate. Chairperson Oglesby said he loved the first design the most and the committee agreed. The committee decided unanimously on Eric Nine’s first design.
