DESIGNING LOCAL 22 PROJECT DESIGN Because different needs may arise throughout the year-long public art consulting term, rather than a fixed scope, Designing Local will approach Smyrna’s requested services based on the following pillars: MOBILIZATION In order to build a solid foundation for our work we will familiarize ourselves with the current state of public art in Smyrna, including its processes, policy, key stakeholders, goals, vision, and so much more. This will allow for us to have a strong understanding of the work we will perform through the contract period. This would include an initial discovery visit to ensure and introduction to staff and key stakeholders in advance of our team executing projects. VISIONING AND ENGAGEMENT When and if the need arises, our team is well suited to ensure there is ample community engagement about various projects that my arise during the contract period. As needed our engagement could comprise of surveys, conversations, and beyond, all in service of developing a vision for art that aligns with community values, ideas, and identities. We will tailor our approach to community engagement for specific project needs as they arise and would report back our findings, and include this analysis in our recommended curatorial vision. FACILITATION AND IMPLEMENTATION We will actively advise on the curatorial vision, growth, and collection management of Smyrna’s public art program. Every public art project or program—from a newly commissioned artwork to a recurring program, like the ARTery initiative—will have supporting project management documentation to implement the project efficiently and transparently. Additionally, we will synchronize our recommendations with the program’s mission and provide direction on how to best leverage resources already in play. REGULAR DOCUMENTATION, REPORTING, AND CHECK-INS Inherent in our services is a comprehensive reporting process to ensure projects are unfolding on time, on budget, and with accuracy. We will establish regular check-in meetings with timely follow-up. REFLECTION We will examine opportunities to build the public art program through integration of public art practices into other strategic partnerships, priorities, initiatives, and programs. We will also regularly assess our alignment with the priorities and assumptions identified in the Mobilization phase. At predetermined intervals, we will also report out program accomplishments and goals achieved. PROJECT APPROACH
