CITY OF SMYRNA PUBLIC ART CONSULTANT PROPOSAL 11 PROJECT DESIGN At Designing Local out team has set out to assist communities in achieving a successful public art program no matter where they are in the process of establishing a public art collection. For some clients that means building a program from the ground up. For other we work to refine their existing program in order to take it to the next level. We believe first and foremost that cities should be fun. To successfully get there we must couple creativity with process which is where our team thrives. We understand the following about your program: • Sm yrna has successfully adopted a Public Art Policy that addresses cover public art definitions, criteria, art donation, guidelines and procedures for commissioned art, loaned art, murals, deaccessioning, and more. • The City has budgeted $75,000.00 for Fiscal Year 2024 public art projects. • The initial c ontract term for this consulting project will be for one (1) year. We understand the following about this project: First and foremost this is about taking concept and bringing it to reality. As Smyrna’s public art consultant, Designing Local’s role would be to support all aspects of the city’s public art program. Our team would take the vision and policy already set in place and deliver high quality a public art process for each individual project that is based on transparency and efficiency. We would also use our knowledge of best practices and the national public art landscape to advice elected officials and city staff on any issues relating to public art as they arise. We understand that the following are some (not all) of the tasks that may be undertaken as part of this project: • Advise the elect ed officials and staff on any public art issues that may arise • Assist staff in developing project recommendations with particular attention to budget, available resources, and potential partnerships. • De velop and assist in executing timeline, scope, and process for artist selection, fabrication, and installation of artwork. • De velop, distribute, and coordinate the selection process for RFQs & RFPs, assist with contracting upon selection. and oversee the fabrication and installation of artwork in accordance within the established timelines. • Establish a public art inventory for the City, *including information related to maintenance and care of each piece. • Conduc t presentations as needed to City Council and others as requested by the City. • Work with City to provide website, social media, and other marketing materials highlighting public art projects. *Designing Local is not able to perform detailed technical assessments of maintenance needs. We have secured the cooperation of EverGreene, a conservator who we have previously worked with on similar projects. PROJECT UNDERSTANDING
