June 16, 2025 7:00 PM City of Smyrna Mayor and Council Meeting 2800 King Street SE Council Chambers Page 2 of 13 • Edie is 7 years old and is preparing to start 2nd grade at St. Benedict's Episcopal School • Edie was the recipient of the “Mayor for the Day Experience” offered at the St. Benedict’s Episcopal School annual fundraising gala • In addition to participating in tonight’s city council meeting, Edie and her parents (Stephen & Noelle Douglass) also enjoyed: o Tour of the Mayor’s office & City Hall, followed by lunch with the Mayor at Zucca in the Smyrna Market Village o Tours of the Smyrna Police Dept and Smyrna Fire Dept Edie will be presented with a “Mayor for the Day” certificate to commemorate her special day. B. Recognize Smyrna Gymnasts – 2025 USA Gymnastics Georgia State Champions Citywide Mayor Derek Norton introduced the State Champions at USA Gymnastics GA State Championships: Samantha Norton: Samantha Norton is a rising 4th grader at St. Benedict’s Episcopal School in Smyrna. She trains at Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta where she recently finished a successful season at the “Silver” level. Sam finished first place all-around at every meet in the 2024-2025 competition season and that didn’t end at State. Sam finished first place at the State meet on the Vault, Balance Beam and the All-Around. Sam has moved up to the Gold level where she is currently having a great time training new skills and learning her new routine. When she is not at gymnastics practice, she likes to read Harry Potter with her dad, do creative art projects, swim and…practice gymnastics at home. Margot Seelinger: Margot Seelinger is a rising sophomore at Campbell High School. She trains at Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta where she recently finished a successful season at Level 9, overcoming injuries and scoring 1st place all-around at every meet. This followed an exciting season at Level 8 where she also scored 1st place all- around at every meet, won 1st all-around at the state championship, and represented Georgia on the Level 8 state team at U.S. Regionals. She is currently training Level 10 and is excited for next season! Christina Shelton: Christina Shelton is a remarkable student-athlete and proud member of the Campbell High School community. She began gymnastics at the age of six and has risen through the ranks—from Xcel to the Junior Olympic program and ultimately to the prestigious Elite pathway. Christina's accomplishments are numerous and inspiring: a multi-time state champion, 2025 Regional Vault Champion, and a two- time National Qualifier representing Region 8. Among her most notable achievements, Christina placed 1st on Bars and 3rd All-Around at the American Classic and competed as a Junior Elite at the U.S. Classics and in the U.S. Developmental Program. She recently completed her junior year and has verbally committed to North Carolina State University on a full athletic scholarship. In addition to her athletic success, Christina is also a young entrepreneur. She founded Tina’s Treats, a lollipop business she launched to help her parents offset the costs of training, travel, and competitions. Her creativity, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit have made Tina’s Treats a local favorite and a symbol of her determination both on and off the mat. C. Recognition of Campbell High School Boys Varsity Soccer - GHSA Class 6A Soccer State Champions Citywide
