Rickey N. Oglesby, Jr. suggested surveying on social media to ask residents questions about their wards and base the art on these answers. Carson Haynie mentioned that if the Public Art Plan is adopted, there will be surveys put out to the community about what should be represented in art, and it might be best to wait to get the answers to the surveys from the Public Art Plan. Anna Talarico agreed and said the benefit from the Public Art Plan is the neighborhood profiles. The committee agreed that for this project, they would like to keep the artwork requirements simple to attract more submissions. Committee Member Burke Scott made a motion to approve pursuing the utility box projects, one from each of the following Wards: Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 5, and Ward 7; seconded by Committee Member Imani Thomas. The motion to approve carried with the following vote: Aye: 5 – City Council Liaison Oglesby, Committee Member Foote, Committee Member Harrison, Committee Member Scott, Committee Member Thomas Nay: 0 – None Absent: 2 – Committee Member Rhome, Committee Member Styf 5. Approval of Minutes A. MIN2025-109 Approval of the May 2, 2025 Smyrna Public Art Committee Meeting Minutes Committee Member Burke Scott made a motion to approve item MIN2025-109; seconded by Committee Member Vanya Foote. Other Business / Staff Comment Rickey N. Oglesby, Jr., said that he hopes to see everyone at the Juneteenth festival. He said that Parks and Rec and the Committee have put a lot of work into it. He stated that a lot of the festival will be about art. He said that there will be a public art project during the festival.
