COW2025-035 Rebuilding Together Atlanta Presentation and Update – Carson Haynie, Special Projects Manager Carson Haynie, Special Projects Manager, introduced Mike Orum, Director of Rebuilding Together Atlanta who presented the following: Rebuilding Together Atlanta (RTA) Senior Owner-Occupied Home Repair Program Our Mission: Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, and Rebuilding Lives National Initiative: Part of a national affiliate network. Rebuilding Together Atlanta is one of nearly 200 affiliates in 40 states. RTA’s Impact: Safe & Healthy Homes, Communities; Revitalized, and Improved Homeowner Health Nonprofit Agency: 501(c)3 – 31 Years Serving Vulnerable Homeowners in Atlanta Metro Area. Cost Effective Service Model: We partner with local communities, neighborhoods, community leaders, corporations, churches, and volunteers to make critical home repairs designed to help our vulnerable neighbors stay in their homes. No Cost: Home Repairs for Neighbors in Need About Rebuilding Together Atlanta • Best Practices: Holistic and person-centered approach to home repairs and community revitalization. We partner with the homeowner and/or community to develop a plan. • Researched Based: RTA Home Repairs are based on the 8 principles of Healthy Homes developed by the National Center for Healthy Housing and endorsed by HUD. Those 8 Keep it dry, Clean, Pest-free, Safe, Contaminant free, Well ventilated, Maintained and Thermally Controlled. • 25 Point Home Health and Safety Checklist: Identify significant health and safety hazards with homes, prioritize repairs, provide a holistic, comprehensive, and detailed scope of work and focus home repairs on results. • Health and Housing Repair Relationship: CDC reports that home repair is a cost- effective form of health care. RTA’s home repairs are focused on the connection between health and housing while preserving the existing affordable housing landscape. • Trusting Relationship: RTA builds a trusting relationship with homeowners in need as well as community leaders. 2024 Program Impact • In 2024, RTA partnered with organizations, businesses, and corporations to complete more than 85 home and community projects • Served more than 1200 very vulnerable residents. • 16% of projects were within Smyrna • 246 home hazards were eliminated. 483 Volunteers donated over 2300 hours of service National Study (including RTA) about the impact of home repairs 7 in 10 people who received repairs reported low or no chance of falling 2/3 of neighbors who reported their health improved after the repairs were completed
