VISITORS Library: 4411 Museum: 23 Tacos, black beans and rice, and quesadillas. Our tweens made it all at the Adulting 101 program on Tuesday, March 17. Using just $35 in ingredients, they prepared enough meals for a week of lunches and dinners, great practice for family time now and for life beyond graduation! ADULTING 101 On Friday, March 20, Youth Services Librarian Rebecca Power attended the Georgia Conference on Children’s Literature at the University of Georgia. She participated in sessions exploring how children’s literature can help young readers feel seen, build empathy for others, and foster curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of reading. During the conference, she also met two of the keynote speakers: Doug Salati (left), the 2023 Caldecott Award– winning illustrator of Hot Dog, and Matthew Burgess (right), whose 2025 book Fireworks received the Caldecott Award last month. CHILDREN’S LITERATURE FESTIVAL M A R C H 2 3 - M A R C H 2 7 P A G E 0 6 LIBRARY AND MUSEUM Spring brings the close of the school year, along with senior superlatives and awards. A new museum collection item reflects a tradition from the past, when local high schools hosted annual beauty pageants. This program from the 1967 “Miss Wills” Pageant is a rare artifact from the former F. T. Wills High School, which opened in 1965 next to Nash Junior High on Ward Road. The program not only highlights students who participated, but also features local businesses that sponsored the event, offering a unique snapshot of Smyrna in the 1960s.
