ATH2026-063 Authorization to approve a request to close Belmont Circle to thru traffic at Atlanta Road to Woodland Trail from May 19th to May 22nd, 2026, and authorize the Mayor to sign and execute all documents. Ward 5 Councilmember - Susan Wilkinson This item was approved on the Consent Agenda. III. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Public comment during this portion of the agenda must be limited to matters within the jurisdiction of the City Council. No subject may be acted upon by the City Council unless that subject is on the agenda and is scheduled for action. If you wish to be heard, please sign up with the City Clerk, come to the podium when called by the Mayor, state your name and address for the record and make your remarks. The time allotted for each speaker is as follows: Public Comment - Three (3) Minutes 11. Public Comment Paul Edson, 1278 Daniel Drive, Ward 6 resident – Advocates for a sidewalk along Daniel Drive. He would like to know what he should be doing to get this done. Daniel Drive is a two-block drive that runs between King Street and Dunn. It is the only east- west street in the area. The neighborhood is quiet, but the streets are well used, and there is no sidewalk. There is hardly a time when there aren’t large trucks. There are elderly people, families with children, dog walkers, and runners. Vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic are in conflict. A sidewalk is for the health and safety of the numerous people in the neighborhood. Mayor Pro Tem Tim Gould thanked Mr. Edson. There is a Traffic Calming Committee that four council members participate in, and this will be discussed. 12. Ward and Staff Reports Councilmember Travis Lindley stated that a number of council members toured the new aquatic center and Tolleson pool. It is coming along nicely. A number of council members have newsletters that are posted on various social media platforms. Councilmember Charles Welch asked those who would like to be on his distribution list for his newsletter to please send him your email address to be on the mailing list. Councilmember Susan Wilkinson congratulated the participants of the Citizens’ Academy. Councilmember Rickey N. Oglesby, Jr. spoke about the new splash pad at Riverview Park which is now open. He reminded all that tomorrow is voting day. The Ward 7 precinct has changed temporarily. Be sure to check where you are supposed to vote. And he announced the Juneteenth festival that will be held on Friday, June 19. There will be great entertainment and activities. Heather Peacon-Corn, City Clerk, stated the following: Tuesday, May 19, 2026, is the General Primary Election. The hours for voting are from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. The locations for Smyrna residents to vote are: • Smyrna 1A – Covenant Church • Smyrna 2A – First Baptist Church • Smyrna 3A – Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church
