Chairperson Mike L. Jones called to order the January 28, 2026 License and Variance Board
meeting held at A. Max Bacon City Hall in Council Chambers at 10:01 AM.

A. V26-007 Public Hearing - Variance Request - V26-007 - Allow second accessory structure -
Land Lot 598 - 1511 Debra Drive - Ann Barrett
Ward 6 Mayor Pro Tem / Councilmember - Tim Gould
Caitlin Crowe, Land Development Services Coordinator, provided the following
background:
The subject parcel is a 0.68-acre corner lot on the northeastern intersection of Pinetree
Drive, Forest Drive, and Debra Drive. The subject parcel and all adjoining parcels are
zoned R-20 and are all occupied by single-family detached residences.
The property is currently occupied by a one-story single-family home and a 594 square
foot detached garage, both built in 1958. The applicant is proposing to construct a new
855 square foot in-ground swimming pool and spa with an accompanying 1,712 square
foot deck to be situated directly behind the existing home. Since the accessory structure
ordinance allows one accessory structure or use per lot, a variance is required to have the
second structure. The applicant is proposing to retain the detached garage; since the
swimming pool and garage offer different uses for the property, the variance is not self-
created.
