6:00 PM City of Smyrna Mayor and Council Meeting 2800 King Street SE Human Resources Training Room Page 2 of 9 - Helped With Deciding The Impact We Want To Make - United The Council Together - Helped to Set Goals Summary of Community Service Projects Summary of Community Service Projects Smyrna Birthday Volunteering • We volunteered at the City of Smyrna's 153rd Birthday Celebration and Culture & Spirit Festival on October 4, 2025. • First, we went to the food pantry inside the Smyrna Community Center to pick up all the cupcakes. • Then, we brought them outside and set up a station to hand them out. • We gave cupcakes to families and people walking around the Village Green. • We kept passing them out while live music and cultural groups performed on the different stages nearby. • It was great being part of the community while bands like the Spin Doctors, Kool & The Gang, and Fitz and the Tantrums played! A Taste of Black History Dinner Here, we celebrated the end of Black History Month at a fundraiser dinner! We volunteered by welcoming attendees into the dinner, helped clean up, and even had the opportunity to promote our hoodie drive and gain donations! Southern Nights Gala Volunteering In October of this term we had the honor of volunteering our time at the Southern Nights Gala. Passing out food, providing information as well as aid to any patrons who needed it. Kiwanis Club speeches A few of our council members had the opportunity to meet with the Kiwanis Club at the Wolfe Center. We spoke about SYC’s mission, “Engage, Empower, Elevate,” and how our past long-term projects such as the Job fair, Smyrna’s Birthday Celebration and Valentine’s Day cards for Delmar Gardens, as well as future projects, all work towards this mission. We spoke about our experiences with the council and had lively interactions with the club discussing their similar goals and advice for our council and the youth. Valentines Day Cards Every year, SYC partners with various elementary schools in Smyrna to donate cards to citizens residing at Delmar Gardens. This year, we went to Smyrna, St. Benedicts, and King Springs Elementary where council members were able to help encourage student participation. Overall, these cards allow the council to connect with our community! Home for the Holidays Food Drive During the Smyrna Tree Lighting, we participated in the “Home for the Holidays” food drive by collecting canned goods to support families in need. To attract people and spread awareness, we handed out candy canes, which helped draw attention and encouraged more community members to contribute. The event brought people together in a festive atmosphere, and our efforts helped provide meals and support to families facing food insecurity during the holiday season. Hoodie Drive (collaboration with Smyrna Connects) In September of this term, we had the honor of meeting Bridges Holmes; the head of Smyrna Connects. Through this partnership, we had the opportunity to collaborate and organize a hoodie drive toward youth in need. We collected, organized, and sent out 62 hoodies to local Smyrna Elementary Schools.
