Mayoral Report Mayor Derek Norton expressed sadness when he spoke about the loss of the Public Works Director Eric Randall who passed away on December 31, 2025 from a heart attack. The funeral was held yesterday, and it was clear Eric had a lasting impact on many as the funeral was well-attended. Someone close to Eric said in a moment of levity that Eric had a laid back, lackadaisical relationship with time. Mayor Norton had an opportunity to speak with Eric for the last time at the Christmas Breakfast at the Reed House, and they both spoke about how blessed they were. Eric will truly be missed. Councilmember Travis Lindley stated that Eric was a dedicated public servant. He wants all to continue to remember him and his family. Councilmember Latonia P. Hines said that it is often stated, “Let the works I’ve done speak for me.” The work Eric did really spoke to what a dedicated part of the Smyrna family he was. He will definitely be missed. Councilmember Charles Welch stated he worked with Eric both times he was in Smyrna. He was very well-fitted to be City Engineer and Public Works Director. The turnout yesterday at the funeral was remarkable. Councilmember Susan Wilkinson stated that she had the privilege to work with Eric when he worked for the City the first time, and she was happy when he returned to the City. Keep his family in prayers. Eric had moved his parents from North Carolina to Smyrna where they reside in Delmar Gardens. Councilmember Glenn Pickens stated it was a difficult day yesterday at the funeral. Eric is gone way too soon. He was a great addition to the City because he was always happy and full of joy. We will all miss him and his terrible jokes. Mayor Pro Tem / Councilmember Tim Gould stated that Eric was a pleasure to work with. Eric was, like him, a dorky engineer, and he found his jokes surprisingly funny. He will be missed. 6. Proclamations and Presentations II.
