ATH2026-004 Approval to use Council Chambers for Ward 2 Meeting, Thursday, January 22, 2026, 6pm-8pm Ward 2 Councilmember - Latonia P. Hines This item was approved on the Consent Agenda. E. ATH2026-005 Authorization of the closure of the south side of the W Spring Street traffic circle for the installation of Public Art on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM. Ward 3 Councilmember - Travis Lindley This item was approved on the Consent Agenda. Mayor Derek Norton explained that this is for the space outside of Zucca. A great piece of public art will be installed there on January 22, 2026. F. ATH2026-007 Approval to use Council Chambers for Concord Lake Village HOA Meeting, Sunday, February 1, 2026, 4:30pm - 5:30pm Ward 3 Councilmember - Travis Lindley This item was approved on the Consent Agenda. III. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Public comment during this portion of the agenda must be limited to matters within the jurisdiction of the City Council. No subject may be acted upon by the City Council unless that subject is on the agenda and is scheduled for action. The time allotted for each speaker is as follows: Public Comment - Three (3) Minutes 11. Public Comment Pat Burns – 10 Concord Rd. at the confluence of Smyrna and Mableton. It has been said that the greatness of a nation is not measured by whom it casts out but by whom it gathers in. I am from Minnesota....lately, my heart is there, grieving. Grieving the shooting death of Renee Good. Renee Good died on Portland Ave., a street I know well. I worked on Portland Ave. at a social service agency when I was a student at the University of Minnesota. That era, the late 1960s, was also a time of community and national turmoil. Today's upheaval is brought on by sanctioned masked gunmen searching our homes, our schools, our businesses, kidnapping mothers, teenagers, and fathers based on their skin color. We have-done this before. Here, we rid Cobb County of the Cherokees. Hooded marauders terrified people of color. We have done this before. Neighbors one day became Brownshirts. The next, betrayed their Jewish friends and other vulnerables. Uncensored history books in the future will write about today’s masked government agents, and students will ask, "Why?" Modern Smyrna, like this nation, is built on the backs of Hispanic laborers. Today they are vilified, afraid, and hunted. Smyrna's strong police department can take care
