Rebecca Power said instead of passing out a coloring sheet, library staff could have a prompt on the sheet, and the patrons could fill out ballots or do a word collage of things they love about the library. Anna Talarico said the project will allow the artist to do the whimsical design aspect. Committee Member Imani Thomas said when deciding on the community engagement portion of the project, it is important to consider what the goal of the engagement looks like in terms of child-centered or family-centered. Committee Member Burke Scott said the committee can have the goal of both child- and family-centered responses by designing the sheet to have one side for questions and the other side for kids to draw on. Chairperson Oglesby said the Juneteenth Festival would be a great time for good community engagement. Library Director Mary Moore said the library can collect the data and deliver it to Carson Haynie. Committee Member Meg Quigley asked when the deadline should be set for feedback collections. Anna Talarico said the committee would not have an artist contract until August, so keeping it open all summer would give the committee time to reach the greatest number of people possible. The committee agreed to close the community input when school starts back. Committee Member Robert Harrison said to ask the artist to include an area on the submission sheets that could showcase specific areas of the mural such as a sky area for kids to put balloons, kites, birds, etc. The committee expressed interest in this idea. Anna Talarico said she and Carson Haynie would be sure the library is involved every step of the way regarding the mural process such as when approving the RFQ, concept designs, and other specifics project details.
