VISITORS Library: 4634 Museum: On Friday, March 6, the Smyrna Library welcomed a preschool class from Beyond the Books. Youth Services Librarian Rebecca Power read two stories about community helpers and discussed all the ways the city supports its residents. Afterwards, the 4 and 5-year-olds explored the children’s area of the library with their teachers. LIBRARY TOUR The Smyrna Library helped readers get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit with a fun family craft! The Adult Services team, along with retired librarian Colleen Harris, prepared green felt shamrocks for participants to decorate and attach to canvas book bags—perfect for catching a rainbow! SHAMROCK BOOK BAGS M A R C H 9 - M A R C H 1 3 P A G E 0 4 LIBRARY AND MUSEUM In honor of the Little League Parade this Saturday, the Museum is highlighting a recent acquisition: a commemorative T-shirt from the 1997 Little League State Championship for the 9–10 All-Stars Division, played at Brinkley Park. Brinkley Park was named for Pomp Fowler Brinkley (1869–1941), a former mayor and councilman of Smyrna who donated four acres in 1939 to establish the park. As the city’s oldest park, it originally featured a baseball field, two tennis courts, paddle tennis and volleyball courts, a sand pit, a shuffleboard court, and a horseshoe pitch. Today, Brinkley Park is best known as the home of Smyrna’s baseball fields. Despite the home-field advantage, Smyrna’s team ultimately fell to the Sandy Plains Stars in July 1997.
