4. Other Business / Staff Comment

Mayor Norton mentioned the misinformation posted on the web about Smyrna’s rebranding efforts.
He mentioned that it stemmed from a dishonest write-up on Reddit which was then picked up by
the Marietta Daily Journal, and neither article stated that the Mayor and Council have not approved
anything at this point. Jennifer Bennett, Community Relations Director, added that all previous
logos were never professionally designed and never went through the citizen input phase. Mayor
Norton as an aside announced that Ms. Bennett had been with the city for 25 years and
congratulated her. Mayor Norton also announced that Stillfire Brewery closes on their financing this
week.

Joe Bennett, City Administrator, said there will be a December 18, 2024 HB581 meeting. If one
cannot attend in person, there is a virtual option.

Councilmember Oglesby announced that a second public art installment will go in this week. There
will be a slight delay because of the rain, but this means that Smyrna has completed two public art
projects before the year ends.

Councilmember Pickens stated that his friend who teaches at Westminster and has his students
reimagine the Baptist Church property. He would like to show Mayor and Council the results.

Scott Cochran, City Attorney, stated that the city has pre-closed on the bond and real estate
transaction. This is for the church property and GA Power building.
