The plan includes an eight-lance track, a full field, a baseball filed, an adaptive fields, and pickleball courts. The multi-use field will replace the baseball field, providing more community space. The project will be funded by SPLOST 2022 overages and general fund contributions. 2026-120: Mayor Norton explained that Atkins Park requests authorization to host a mobile bar area in the new location for Atlanta Cornhole League, which will now be located on the Veterans Lawn (King Street). The dates planned are March 19, March 26, April 2, April 16, April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 14, evening hours. Seltzers and pre- made cocktails will be served. POL2026-002: Mayor Norton explained that the City Chaplaincy Program policy (Ben 7-0) was adopted on July 1, 2020, to establish a corps of volunteer ministers to supplement the City’s other employee assistance programs. The program was originally put in place under prior leadership, and while it served a thoughtful purpose, it was never fully implemented. Both our Police and Fire departments continue to have their own chaplaincy policies. If other City staff need chaplain services, we can coordinate through those departments or utilize our Employee Assistance Program. Our goal is to streamline the process and administration while keeping the same level of support. The City wants to keep the strong, informal relationships in place that have worked so well for our staff over the years. ATH2026-037: Mike Jones, City Administrator, explained that with the closure of the City’s jail, a prisoner transport until will be established. This unit will consist of one supervisor and eight transport officers. This unit will be responsible for the transport, control and security of prisoners to jails, the City of Smyrna Municipal court, medical facilities, and other designated locations. • Prisoner Transport Officer will be classified on the pay scale at GOVT-5 (Pay Range: $44,824 – 69,477) • Prisoner Transport Supervisor will be classified at GOVT-9 (Pay Range: $54,786 – 84,918) 5. Other Business / Staff Comment Mayor Norton – Little League parade will be on Saturday from Campbell Middle School to Brinkley Park. The St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will be this weekend. StillFire opens Friday officially. Their programming line-up is great, and there are really good partnerships with other Smyrna businesses. Mayor Norton also read a complimentary letter from former Fire Chief Roy Acree. Councilmember Hines – She heard five people say this week how happy they are they live in Smyrna. She announced the Women’s History Month Luncheon which will be hosted by Lori Wilson from WSB. The historical honoree is Louise Lindley because of her involvement with the Smyrna division of Rosie the Riveters. She said to go to social media to find the link to nominate a current nominee who would be somebody who lives in city, makes a significant contribution to city, and/or does business in Smyrna. It will be held on Friday, March 27 at the Reed House. Councilmember Welch – Saturday, Smyrna will host a shredding event. Councilmember Wilkinson – Mentioned she knows some neighbors who were machinists as part of the Rosie the Riveters movement.
