January 16, 2025 6:00 PM City of Smyrna Mayor and Council Meeting 2800 King Street SE Human Resources Training Room Page 4 of 9 (5) Only alcoholic beverages that the licensee is licensed to sell on the licensed premises may be offered as part of a tasting event, and such alcoholic beverages shall be part of the licensee's inventory; (6) Only food that is lawful to sell on the licensed premises may be served as part of a tasting event. Such food shall be offered at no cost to the consumer; (7) Any operator or employee of the licensee may refuse to provide any brand, type, or quantity of alcoholic beverage to any consumer; (8) Prior to holding a tasting event, the licensee shall notify the Community Development Department by email through the Department’s system of record or online portal system; (9) Any broken package containing alcoholic beverages on the licensed premises that is not licensed for retail sales for consumption on the premises shall be kept locked in a secure room or cabinet by the operator of the licensed premises except when in use during a tasting event; (10) Representatives and salespersons of manufacturers or wholesalers may attend a tasting event; provided, however, that such representatives and salespersons shall not host the tasting event, pour any alcoholic beverage, or provide anything of value to any consumer or to the licensee or an employee of a licensee. CHOR2025-003: Bo Jones, Water Sewer Utility Director, provided the following information: As Part of ARPA funded projects the Doeskin Project consist of 6,200 LFT of pipe replacement and new service line materials. Project cost increased due to field changes that consisted of tree preservation, Driveway aprons replacements, and sod installation to 70 homes returning landscaping back to its original state 3. COW2025-007 Recycling Program – Updates and Challenges Discussion – Julie Barwig Julie Barwig, Environmental Services Director, presented the following: Assessing Curbside Recycling Why? 1. Reports of contamination from city staff, KSB board & volunteers, other citizens. 2. Frequent citizen questions about efficacy of curbside recycling. 3. Ensuring newly allocated resources are as effective as possible. What We Were Looking For Contamination • Occurs when non-recycling material or garbage ends up in recycling system. - Common contaminants: glass, plastics not #1 and 2, food, liquid, household hazardous waste Auditing the Recycling Bins The Process • Audit the bins of residents and find out what items are contaminating the recycling stream by following recycling trucks • Environmental Services staff audited the bins of 1,259 homes over the course of three days on three different routes • Day 1: Ward 7, 389 homes • Day 2: Ward 3, 443 homes
