D. 2026-082 Approval of the Special Event Permit for the American Legion Post 160 to host the ‘Be the One: Legion Run’ on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM with rolling road closures along the selected pre-approved race route. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION Public comment during this portion of the agenda must be limited to matters within the jurisdiction of the City Council. No subject may be acted upon by the City Council unless that subject is on the agenda and is scheduled for action. The time allotted for each speaker is as follows: Public Comment - Three (3) Minutes 11. Public Comment 12. Ward and Staff Reports Councilmember Glenn Pickens thanked Councilmember Latonia P. Hines and the committee for the Black History Month event. Councilmember Latonia P. Hines thanked council for their support for the Black History Month event and other events. This year’s celebration marks 100 years with a “Taste of Black History.” There were samplings, and Chef G. Garvin of Food Network fame was the guest judge. Two vendors were named Best All-Around: World Renown Catering and Myers Gourmet Kitchen. The People's Choice was Aunties House. She also reminded all about the Women's History Luncheon on March 27th. Councilmember Travis Lindley echoed Councilmember Pickens’ thanks to Councilmember Hines. Councilmember Susan Wilkinson thanked Councilmember Hines and the staff that helped put it together. Mayor Pro Tem / Councilmember Tim Gould expressed kudos to Councilmember Hines for the successful Black History Month celebration. He also announced the Campbell High School Girls’ Varsity Basketball playoff game for the Elite 8 will be played tomorrow night against Lowndes High at 6:00 PM. Councilmember Rickey N. Oglesby, Jr. congratulated Councilmember Hines and the successful Black History Month event. It was an event that brought great caterers, restaurateurs, and the community together. He also expressed congratulations and encouragement to Smyrna spring athletes as they begin their seasons. Mike Jones, City Administrator, stated that as an Air Force Veteran, he would like to remind everyone to keep those who are serving abroad in their thoughts and prayers. 13. Adjournment Mayor Derek Norton adjourned the March 2, 2026 Mayor and Council meeting at 7:26 PM.
