Mayor Norton recommended this be tabled to give time for the Fire Department to provide the information council members are seeking. ATH2026-095: Councilmember Wilkinson asked where the funds for the Parks & Recreation maintenance equipment will come from. Kristin Robinson, Deputy City Administrator / CFO, said in a few weeks they will know if their tax projection are good. If it is, then they will amend the budget to provide funding for this equipment. 4. Other Business / Staff Comment Councilmember Oglesby stated that last year’s Juneteenth event had around 5,000 in attendance, and this year’s Juneteenth event had about 8,800. He thanked Parks & Recreation for all of their efforts. Mike L Jones, City administrator, mentioned that Mayor and Council had voted to close King Street from Bank Street to Powder Springs Street for the duration of the FIFA World Cup events. Mayor Norton stated he does not want the road opened up yet. It is still summer with lots of public activity in the green space, so it would be safer to keep it closed until mid-August. Councilmember Wilkinson expressed concern about the closure blocking access to parking spaces, especially handicapped parking spaces. And she mentioned a resident who volunteers at the library has a difficult time finding a parking spot at the library. Councilmember Welch stated that he also has heard from residents who have difficulty finding spaces at the library. Andrea Worthy, Economic Department Director, is going to have a parking study done to better inform how the city could potentially solve some of these issues. An agenda change will be made to add an item to close King Street from Bank Street to Powder Springs Street to the Consent Agenda through August 17, 2026. Mr. Jones updated Mayor and Council about the pond and the gazebo in front of City Hall. The gazebo is in disrepair and will be torn down. Discussion took place about timing and what may go in its place. Councilmember Pickens had a neighborhood meeting a couple weeks ago about Campbell Middle School. Everyone seems pretty excited about it. Councilmember Hines thanked Carson Haynie, Special Projects Manager, for the Brush & Box Fest. People loved it, and she hopes they can do that again. The Yacht Rock concert ended earlier than expected due to weather and travel issues. Fortunately, the FIFA World Cup event was able to be turned on the screens. 5. Executive Session (As Needed) 6.
