ISSUE AND BACKGROUND:
On November 17, 2025, Mayor and Council voted to approve to close King Street between Bank 
Street and Powder Springs Street indefinitely effective November 21, 2025 between the hours of 
3:00PM Fridays - 6:00PM Sundays to allow pedestrian traffic during peak hours of use at the Village 
Green Space.
In anticipation of the World Cup FIFA event called Cup Daze, Public Works and Parks and Rec are 
requesting 24 hour a day closure from June 11, 2026 – July 19, 2026 for pedestrains to be able to 
navigate safely the event areas on the Village Green Space. 
RECOMMENDATION / REQUESTED ACTION:
Public Works and Parks and Rec recommend approval to close King Street between Bank Street and 
Powder Springs Street from June 11, 2026 through July 19, 2026 for the downtown event Cup Haze, 
celebrating the FIFA World Cup games to allow pedestrian traffic during peak hours of use at the 
Village Green Space.
