The motion to approve carried with the following vote: Aye: 4 – City Council Liaison Oglesby, Committee Member Foote, Committee Member Harrison, Committee Member Thomas Nay: 0 – None Absent: 3 – Committee Member Rhome, Committee Member Scott, Committee Member Styf 5. Approval of Minutes A. MIN2025-025 Approval of the January 17, 2025 Smyrna Public Art Committee Meeting Minutes Committee Member Robert Harrison made a motion to approve item MIN2025-025; seconded by Committee Member Imani Thomas. The motion to approve carried with the following vote: Aye: 4 – City Council Liaison Oglesby, Committee Member Foote, Committee Member Harrison, Committee Member Thomas Nay: 0 – None Absent: 3 – Committee Member Rhome, Committee Member Scott, Committee Member Styf 6. Other Business / Staff Comment • Carson Haynie mentioned that the committee should think about new ideas to bring to the table at the next meeting. • Richard Garland mentioned that we still want to pursue the public art master plan and that we may have the funding to begin the master plan in FY2025. • Anna Talarico explained that something that there are ways to incorporate artists-based community engagement art projects within the master plan. • Rickey Oglesby stated that his goal is to debut new public art every quarter. Anna responded that the committee have a conversation about bringing in sculptures to debut. • Robert Harrison mentioned that there is space in Smyrna to do more utility box art projects. He would like to see public art in the green space, specifically a mural on the new bathrooms. • Burke Scott mentioned that there will be an opportunity for public art at the Baptist Church location that the city recently purchased. • Anna Talarico emphasized that the benefit of the public art master plan is that it will outline sustainable funding mechanisms, and what projects will be done, and city council will hopefully approve the plan because they want the outlined projects to happen. • Rickey Oglesby emphasized his goal of having art to debut every season. • Anna Talarico suggested that the group look around Smyrna and identify places that could benefit from public art. • Burke would like to see art by the water feature in downtown Smyrna where families congregate.
