Page 1 of 7 1. Roll Call 2. Call to Order The February 27, 2026, Smyrna Public Art Committee held at A. Max Bacon City Hall in the Admin Conference Room and was called to order at 11:49 AM. 3. Chairperson Instruction and Comment Chairperson Oglesby welcomed the committee to the meeting and recognized a member of the public in attendance. The individual identified himself as Matthew, a third-year Kennesaw State University student attending the meeting for his News Reporting class project. 4. Formal Business A. 2026-112 Ward 4 Public Art Opportunities Chairperson Oglesby asked Special Projects Manager Carson Haynie about the public art opportunities in Ward 4. Carson Haynie informed the committee that the retaining wall in ward 4 mentioned during the previous meeting is no longer a feasible artwork location as it is private property within Cobb County, not Smyrna. Carson Haynie proposed new options such as art at North Cooper Lake Park and commissioning an artist to do murals on the bike tunnels or incorporating the community garden in that park as well. Carson Haynie said she received a few ideas from the Smyrna History Museum Manager Jennie Eldridge about history within ward 4 such as Cooper Lake, Daniel Cemetery, Fire Station 2, Keep Smyrna Beautiful, Lake Court Dog Park, Sparkles, Silver Comet Trail, Catholic Churches and many others for potential projects. Carson Haynie encouraged the committee to review the ideas and report which ones they are most interested in pursuing. Chairperson Oglesby said it is very unfortunate that the retaining wall did not work out. Chairperson Oglesby mentioned that he would work with the Cobb County Commissioner to get something done about the retaining wall. Committee Member Vanya Foote said she would be interested in seeing art in North Cooper Lake Park and the dog park.
