The motion to approve carried with the following vote: Aye: 7 – City Council Liaison Oglesby Jr., Committee Member Barnes, Committee Member Foote, Committee Member Harrison, Committee Member Quigley, Committee Member Scott, Committee Member Thomas Nay: 0 – None Recuse: 0 – None B. 2026-114 Public Art at the Library Special Projects Manager Carson Haynie said the Smyrna Library Director Mary Moore reached out and shared that the 25-year-old mural in Youth Services needs a revamp and she asked for help from the Public Art Committee. Committee Member Vanya Foote said it needs sprucing up. The committee agreed. Chairperson Oglesby said the current mural does not inspire children of this generation to read, and he asked the committee for their ideas. Committee Member Imani Thomas said something bright and colorful that inspires reading would be exciting. Chairperson Oglesby said Smyrna has so much young talent and he would love to see the Public Art Committee reach out to Smyrna’s youth for this project. Committee Member Leah Barnes said the children could submit ideas and partner with a professional artist. Committee Member Burke Scott expressed concern about compensation if the artists were minors. Committee Member Leah Barnes said the children could explain their ideas for the art and the commissioned artist can do the physical painting. Chairperson Oglesby said the Smyrna Education Foundation may be a good resource for a project like this. The committee agreed. Committee Member Meg Quigley said it’s a great angle with community involvement by getting pictures of children working on the project. Committee Member Leah Barnes said the library could pass out coloring pages and participating children could put their information on the back, then return them to the library. The committee agreed this would be a great way to obtain ideas from children. Deputy City Administrator Kristin Robinson said the Friends of Smyrna Library could help with the project. Committee Member Leah Barnes said the Smyrna Education Foundation could be involved monetarily by providing supplies. Chairperson Oglesby asked Carson Haynie to reach out to the Friends of Smyrna Library and share the idea as a starting point. Chairperson Oglesby emphasized the importance of sharing the idea regarding artwork submissions should be relayed. Special Projects Manager Carson Haynie said she would. Public comment asked for clarification on the project. Committee Member Imani Thomas explained. Chairperson Oglesby said he would like to set an unofficial timeline for when to get the library project done. Deputy City Administrator Kristin Robinson said if the committee wants the children to be elementary aged, Library Director Mary Moore has a great summer reading program for that age group that would
