City of Smyrna Issue Sheet File Number: A Max Bacon City Hall 2800 King Street Smyrna, GA 30080 3 5 5 2 2 Agenda Date: 7/13/2026 In Control: City Council File Type: Presentation Agenda Section: Formal Business Department: Finance Agenda Title: Public Hearing for the 2026 Millage rate; there will be no vote on this item. Citywide ISSUE AND BACKGROUND: The FY27 budget approved by Council includes revenue projections for property taxes based on a millage rate of 8.99 mills. This hearing is the first of three required public hearings prior to the formal adoption of the 8.99 millage rate. The City received the 2026 tax digest information from Cobb County on June 18, 2026. Based on that data, the calculated rollback millage rate is 8.834 mills. Rolling back to 8.834 mills allows the City to avoid advertising a tax increase. For comparison, last year’s rollback millage rate was 8.936 mills. All required public notices were published in the Marietta Daily Journal on July 4 and 5, 2026, and again on July 11 and 12, 2026. A press release was sent to the Marietta Daily Journal on June 29, 2026, and the information is posted on the City’s website. This hearing is the first of the three required public hearings. The additional hearings take place at 8:30 AM on Monday, July 20, 2026, and at 7:00 PM on Monday, July 20, 2026. Adoption of the millage rate will appear as an agenda item during the 7:00 PM Mayor and Council meeting on July 20, 2026. RECOMMENDATION / REQUESTED ACTION: This is the first of three required public hearings on the 2026 millage rate. No vote at this meeting.
