4. Other Business / Staff Comment Councilmember Oglesby stated that last year’s Juneteenth event had around 5,000 in attendance, and this year’s Juneteenth event had about 8,800. He thanked Parks & Recreation for all of their efforts. Mike L Jones, City administrator, mentioned that Mayor and Council had voted to close King Street from Bank Street to Powder Springs Street for the duration of the FIFA World Cup events. Mayor Norton stated he does not want the road opened up yet. It is still summer with lots of public activity in the green space, so it would be safer to keep it closed until mid-August. Councilmember Wilkinson expressed concern about the closure blocking access to parking spaces, especially handicapped parking spaces. And she mentioned a resident who volunteers at the library has a difficult time finding a parking spot at the library. Councilmember Welch stated that he also has heard from residents who have difficulty finding spaces at the library. Andrea Worthy, Economic Department Director, is going to have a parking study done to better inform how the city could potentially solve some of these issues. An agenda change will be made to add an item to close King Street from Bank Street to Powder Springs Street to the Consent Agenda through August 17, 2026. Mr. Jones updated Mayor and Council about the pond and the gazebo in front of City Hall. The gazebo is in disrepair and will be torn down. Discussion took place about timing and what may go in its place. Councilmember Pickens had a neighborhood meeting a couple weeks ago about Campbell Middle School. Everyone seems pretty excited about it. Councilmember Hines thanked Carson Haynie, Special Projects Manager, for the Brush & Box Fest. People loved it, and she hopes they can do that again. The Yacht Rock concert ended earlier than expected due to weather and travel issues. Fortunately, the FIFA World Cup event was able to be turned on the screens. 5. Executive Session (As Needed)

So I need a motion to add to the agenda. That would be agenda item to be under consent uh agenda item D to leave the Ballards up through uh August Monday, August 17th. Can I have a motion to add that? Okay. Uh, Mr. Lindley has made the motion. Miss Hines had seconded. Uh, everyone, please vote. Okay, that's added to the agenda. That will be under consent item D. Uh, the next is my mayoral report. Uh, it's been a month since we've met. That's typical of the summer. And, uh, we've had quite a bit going on since then. Um, we had the, as I mentioned, the FIFA World Cup watch parties at our green space. Uh, we we aired every match and so we've had anywhere from a few hundred to 2,000 people down there. And it's been a really good um community event. Along that time, we had the uh Brush and Boxes art event. And so, if you were down there for FIFA, you've seen those art boxes along King. That was a great community event there. Had our summer concert series. We had a Junth celebration that I understand had almost nine nine,000 people this time, which was almost what close to double what we had the last time. Uh shepherded in by Mr. Oglesby. And then if you've been just right around here down by our city hall, we have 250 American flags out on our veterans memorial for our country's 250th birthday. And it looks fantastic. So, uh, I want to thank all of our staff, uh, public safety and parks and wreck and public works for all of their efforts. I'm sure they're very happy that, uh, we had the FIFA World Cup watch parties, and I'm almost positive they're sure they're glad that they're they're done now. So, um, thank you to the staff.

What this search can tell you
Coverage is incomplete. This collection tracks 118 meetings. 39 have searchable transcripts and 72 have searchable minutes; a meeting may have both. 10 currently have neither. A missing passage is not evidence that a topic was never discussed.
Speech and summaries stay distinct. Transcript passages preserve the available transcript text. Minutes are labeled as summaries, not spoken quotations. Speaker identities are shown only where the source or documented attribution supports them; an unattributed speaker remains unattributed.
Relevance does not establish a connection. Topic search uses meaning and words to help you locate passages. Read adjacent passages, follow the source and inspect any agenda context before drawing a conclusion about an official’s position or a decision.
