our special guests this evening. These 12 boys up here and their coaches got to come up on stage which was pretty awesome. Um it's just the best community event I know of anywhere. We had people downtown from 11:00 a.m. all the way till the fireworks at um 10 or so at night and um we're just going to keep it going. This that's become a marquee event every year. And I appreciate very much the the staff that puts it together. Jennifer Bennett on our staff is um integral in putting it all together. our parks and recck staff, the public safety personnel who are there to make it safe for us, and then at the end of the day, the uh public works crew uh and their team who clean up everything. And if you came downtown on Sunday morning, you wouldn't have even known we had a party. And that was pretty awesome considering the amount of um people. Thank you to our staff. Um we had a since we met last met, we had our Hispanic Heritage Celebration, which was one of the better ones we've ever had. uh heavily attended and a lot of new vendors and folks came out for that. So, um we'll keep doing that every year. And then this afternoon, I was able to go to the public uh the Cobb Chambers public safety appreciation lunchon and um we had some fire personnel who were nominated for awards and some uh police personnel that handled that shooting at Adventure Outdoors last year uh were honored and and given an award for their service. two of our two of our police officers were wounded in that in that incident there. So, um always appreciate those that keep us safe every day. So, with that, I'll conclude my mayoral report and go to a special recognition uh that I get to make tonight and I'm I'm so pleased to be able to do it for the second consecutive year.

We have with us tonight the Smyrna Little League 8U Blue All-Star team who were once again state champions. And when they were here last year, um I was so excited that I just talked on and on and gushed about them. And then I I kind of stole Coach Mike's thunder. So, I'm not going to do that this time. Except I will say this group is a super special group of boys. work really, really hard. When they're chosen to be allstars, they practice every single day, give or take, for a few weeks, at least a couple months. It is a huge undertaking and a huge commitment. And each of the last two years, they've had to come out of the losers bracket, right? They lost their first game, and so they had to battle back out of that at at uh what is that at regional or district? I can't remember which, but anyway, it's it's difficult to do to beat a team twice and they've done it twice and they just have a ton of grit. There's a couple of members of the team uh new members of this team that were not on the team last year, but it's almost almost the same. And for the new newer members of the team, what an awesome experience. And I I really hope that we're able to do this again next year, too. So, I'm gonna invite coach Mike Low up um to introduce the other coaches and introduce the team and talk about uh how awesome this is. I think this if if the board at the uh at Brinkley Park is correct, they are only the second team in the city's history to go backto back as state champions. So, come on up. Yeah. Okay. All right. Uh, I don't know if I need this, but uh, thank you so much, Mayor Norton, uh, City of Smyrna.

Uh, the support that we get from the community makes, uh, our jobs so much easier. The support y'all give our park, it's amazing. Uh, the fact that we go to our fields every day, they're dragged, they are ready, they're prepped, ready to go. Um it's uh we and we have some of the best facilities in the state here which is uh really it's a testament to the city and what y'all pour in the community and uh and invest in these kids and uh all of our sports programs. So thank you all so much for that. Um real quick I'll just go uh take all of us back on a trip down memory lane. This uh whole journey started back in mid August of 2024. Uh, every single one of these boys has put in hours and hours and hours of practice and reps and um, scrimmages and games and the uh, our ultimate goal after we won the state championship last year was bring it back and that's exactly what we did. Um, so throughout the fall all these guys are getting quality reps. Uh then spring comes around and we all play uh wreck uh little league ball at Smyrna Little League. And out of over 130 kids in our league, uh these 12 were selected by their coaches to represent the uh the AU all-star team uh for Smyrna Little League. Uh, and so starting May 8th of last year, um, we started practicing and, uh, throughout the all-star process, we practiced 23 days, uh, two hours each. So, uh, if you look at all the warm-ups and practices, we practiced over 50 hours, uh, throughout the summer, played 15 games, um, and made it through district where we had a challenge from our other all-star team.

um won our district, moved on to the sectional tournament, uh which was in Peace Tree City this year, and just like last year, uh our friendly nemesis Carterville, they beat us in the first game, and we had to fight our way through the losers bracket, and we had to win a double header on the final uh day of sectionals to make it to state. And these boys put it together and um played their best baseball um against Carterville. And um we were fortunate enough to make it to the state tournament in uh Warner Robbins. If you've never been to Warner Robbins, their facilities are second to none. They have a stadium down there where the state championship game is played. It's amazing. Um in fact, uh the 12-year-old regional tournament was played there and they actually had some games on ESPN, but the it uh I have to admit, boys, I got a little emotional when I stepped foot on that field. not just because uh of the moment being the state championship game, but because the opportunity that y'all had to play at a facility like that. And uh we faced Dudley in the state championship game and uh won that game nine to three after two hours of rain delays and um so it was a long weekend, but uh we came out victorious. Um could not have done it without uh my three assistant coaches, coach Alan Nicks, Scott Failen, and Maris Fuller. Um could not have asked for better assistant coaches uh for this team. It's makes my job so much easier when I uh I don't even have to tell them uh what we're doing. They know what we're doing in practice. We uh we really jelled as a coaching staff this year and it um it helps our team develop and uh it it really showed in the development of the boys over that month and a half period that we had them.

Um also the parents, all the parents were amazing. Y'all uh bought into what we were doing as coaches. Uh y'all committed, which it is a big commitment practicing almost every single day. We threw a couple pool parties in there to give the boys a break, but uh but every single day practicing or playing a game for almost a month and a half. Uh so parents, thank you all. We could not have done it without y'all's support and y'all's commitment to what we were trying to do. Um okay, I'm gonna try to stop rambling. I'm going to introduce these boys. Uh boys, when I say your name, if y'all want to stand up and just wave. Sound good? Okay. Okay, perfect. All right, come on up. Lawson, Lawson, Barnes, Sheplo, Mills, Kalin, Jack Norton, Logan Harris, Zayn Fuller, Palmer Han, Maddx Holden, Ruben Randall, AJ Gordon. I'm saving these two for last because we had Tate Nicks as our starting pitcher in the state championship game. Come on up, Tate. And Jude Failen as the closing pitcher for the state championship game. My question to you all is are we going to see you again next year as the first team ever to pre Let's do it. [Applause] Let me put this down. Let's get Hey, let's have a party. Some of y'all on one side and some of y'all on this side. And figure it out here. Super proud of you, boys. Here. We got need a couple more over here. Couple more here. You come right here. Closer. Come right here. One more on that side. All right, big round of applause for these boys. Good job, guys. Just fun. I love it. I know that you all had a late night Saturday. You had to be at Kennesaw on Sunday morning at 7 a.m. and and pretty much there all day.
