Thank you very much. Go on now to item C, zoning request Z25- Z009 at Benson Pool Road. Mr. Jones, any background before we turn it over to Joey? No, sir. Defer comments to our city planner, Mr. Sts. Good evening. I'm Joey Stabs, planner 2 with community development. This applicant is Alejandra Sanchez. It went to the PNZ board on August 11th and they recommended approval 70. The subject property is 2351 Benson Pool Road. It's about an acre. Um there's an existing 1,800 square foot building on the property. They're not planning to redevelop the property. They just want to change the zoning from office distribution to general commercial. As you can see, all the red around it is general commercial. Um the property below it is office distribution. There's nothing that's happening with that property with this resoning. And the other big property is a Georgia Power Substation. The future land use is mixed juice. That will remain mixed juice. Here's a picture of the subject property overhead. Uh, and then the building that's on the property and some adjacent properties. Staff is recommending approval of the reszoning from OD to GC with the following conditions. One, the following uses will be prohibited. Automobile broker office, auto parts attire stores, automobile repair, major and minor. Automobile and truck sales and service, automobile wash services, drive-thru restaurants, motorcycle sales and service, package stores, service stations, hookah bars, vape shops, parking of commercial vehicles, impromptu weekend markets and adult uses. Number two, um these are conditional. So, event facilities shall only operate between the hours of 8 am and 10 p.m. Restaurants shall only operate between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. And laundry and dry cleaning will be pickup and drop off only. Three, they will all have to comply with section 46.1 of the noise regulation and city smartest code of ordinances.

Yes, sir. Mayor, when the budget was adopted earlier this year, one of the line items was specific to some signage updates. The signs were not awarded until August after the budget was adopted. So, we need to move those funds forward out of the 24 budget into the 25 budget. And then the one other addition to the budget is the city received an Elmig safety grant from the state the amount of $424,400. Um that was not included in the adopted budget because it didn't exist at that time. So, we need to add that to the 2022 SPLOS fund budget and also um balance the revenue budget to account for the grant receipt. Any questions or discussion from council? Thank you, Mr. Jones. I will entertain a motion be passed by Mr. Oglesby. Do I have a second? Second. Second by Mr. Welch. All those in favor, please vote. Mr. Lindley. Yes. That's approved unanimously. Want to say anything? Right. Uh, nobody's here for public comment, so we'll go to ward and staff reports. U, Mr. Lindley, you want to kick us off tonight? Any report? Yes. Just a huge thanks to city staff for a great event this weekend. Uh, certainly showcased our community in the best possible way. And huge thanks to the folks that came out yesterday for the backtoback ward ward town hall. Just like to uh re reiterate what Travis said. Uh thanks to the staff for throwing a incredible birthday party over the weekend and uh those that came out to our town hall yesterday. Miss Hines. Uh thank you, mayor. And just echoing uh the words that you said earlier about the public safety appreciation lunchon. Um it was it it's very steering to be able to see uh those men and women being recognized for the things that they do every day. They don't do what they do for recognition. So it's good to be able to uh see them be recognized. And then also thank you to the staff. Amazing. I went out early on Saturday morning and they worked from early in the morning to late at night to make sure that things were um taken care of and uh to be able to have a event like that that big and it be a safe one, it takes a lot. So, I'm very thankful for that. And then I just like to Rose Garden will be having its fall festival. It'll be on October 18th. I'm not sure if we'll have another meeting before then, but um it's a great neighborhood and they do it all themselves and um it's a great recognition.

So with that I Mr. Welch. Thank you Mr. Mayor. I also want to thank our staff for doing all the cleanup work and setup work for the birthday celebration this weekend. They they do a fantastic job and really can't say enough about how how good of a job they do. We the council appreciate it and also want to mention on Saturday before the birthday celebration, the Smyrna Historical Society had an open house, both the Reed House and Taylor Bronner and I I worked the Reed House and I I estimate we probably hadundred people that came in just to see those facilities. So, we appreciate all y'all coming out. I think the plan is to try to do it again. I don't think we uh I think we purposely don't rent that facility or e either of those facilities that day. and um we'll try it again next year just to bring awareness to the great public facilities that we have for events and thank the city for allowing us to do it that I miss Wilson. Um I want to reiterate what my fellow council members have said thanking the staff for all their uh the work that they put into the birthday celebration. lot of people came out and thank the staff for all their work. Mr. Gold, thank you, Mr. Mayor. Just a couple of quick things. Uh to echo what Travis said, we had a very productive ward meeting uh here yesterday. Appreciate our folks coming out. Kind of a rainy rainy day. A lot of good input and questions. And then this afternoon we had a trafficcoming meeting and uh gota give staff a lot of credit for the work they're doing throughout the city being creative and come up ways to help ensure our roads are safe and usable and neighborhoods and are comfortable and all that with traffic and pedestrian safety.

It's going to bring a lot of value to the area and also to the region. Um, and it's paid for through grant money, right? It's awesome. Also, uh, I had the honor of, excuse me, of attending this the, uh, the awards, uh, banquet for the Smyrna that the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation put on for our fire department. Uh, there were led by Denise, executive director. Another awesome, uh, event honoring some of our heroes here in the city of Smyrna. I truly believe we have the best fire department here in the state of Georgia. and it was on full display uh during the uh the dinner. Um and if you would like to support the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation, they are actually having their annual Jazz Under the Gazebo uh here right here in downtown Smyrna November the 1st. And that's uh from 7:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. And you can get those tickets online at their website. Uh yeah, we should all uh support Smyrna Public Safety Foundation. I yield back to you, Mayor. I am so glad that you mentioned that because you triggered my memory to mention something that I'd have gotten in big trouble for if I didn't if I didn't do it. As a reminder, Support Smyrna is the hyper local nonprofit that uh assists seniors and children and families and others veterans uh right here in our Smyrna community. So, thank you Ricky for your mention of that, man. I'd have been I'd have been in trouble. Um, Mike Jones, anything you want to add tonight? Yes, sir. Judge, anything you want to add? The honor is ours. Miss Heather, Jill, anything? Not this evening. All right. If there's nothing else to be brought before this body, we uh adjourn from the Jonqual City at 8:00 PM.

What this search can tell you

Coverage is incomplete. This collection tracks 118 meetings. 39 have searchable transcripts and 72 have searchable minutes; a meeting may have both. 10 currently have neither. A missing passage is not evidence that a topic was never discussed.

Speech and summaries stay distinct. Transcript passages preserve the available transcript text. Minutes are labeled as summaries, not spoken quotations. Speaker identities are shown only where the source or documented attribution supports them; an unattributed speaker remains unattributed.

Relevance does not establish a connection. Topic search uses meaning and words to help you locate passages. Read adjacent passages, follow the source and inspect any agenda context before drawing a conclusion about an official’s position or a decision.
