Smyrna Jail closes

ISSUE AND BACKGROUND:
With the closure of the City’s jail, a prisoner transport until will be established. This unit will consist of 
one supervisor and eight transport officers. This unit will be responsible for the transport, control and 
security of prisoners to jails, the City of Smyrna Municipal court, medical facilities, and other 
designated locations. 
Prisoner Transport Officer will be classified on the pay scale at GOVT-5 (Pay Range: $44,824 – 69,477)
Prisoner Transport Supervisor will be classified at GOVT-9 (Pay Range: $54,786 – 84,918)
RECOMMENDATION / REQUESTED ACTION:
Staff recommends approval of new personnel positions to staff the Prisoner Transport Unit
