 - They manage parks and facilities so people have places to play and relax. 
 - Staff help run events, keep parks safe, and maintain equipment. 
 - The department promotes healthy living through sports and activities. 
 - They also work with schools and local groups to involve the community. 
 - We met some of the staff that day and learned how they do their work. 
  
Activity with Public Works 
 - Learned how much behind-the-scenes engineering and coordination it takes to 
keep a city like Smyrna running smoothly 
 - Saw how one of the city’s largest budgets is structured and how funds are 
allocated across the department 
 - Watched crews repair a real-time water leak: impressive teamwork and rapid 
decision-making 
 - Operated a garbage truck and saw firsthand how essential sorting waste is 
 - Surprised by the actual size of a traffic light when viewed up close 
 - Discovered how heavily the Fire Department relies on Public Works: 
infrastructure support and fire-truck maintenance 
  
Activity with Keep Smyrna Beautiful 
Here, we had the opportunity to learn about the Keep Smyrna Beautiful organization, and 
all they do for our city! We discussed their “adopt-a-mile” program and found many 
opportunities for the council to help out environmentally around the city. We also met with 
the KSB Coordinator, Eloise Holland! 
  
Plans For The future  
  
Rebuilding Together Atlanta Video 
 - Rebuilding Together Atlanta is a non-profit organization that repairs homes and 
revitalizes communities for low-income homeowners in Metro Atlanta which 
specifically focuses on seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities to help 
restore their living spaces. 
 - We are planning to make an advertisement video for Rebuilding Together 
Atlanta in order to raise publicity for this program. 
 - We plan to interview city council members who have served with RTA as well as 
people who have already been positively impacted by the program to highlight its 
success and encourage more people to participate.
